I began my career with the Laborers Union in 1998 although having worked in the construction industry since 1989. My last job working in the field, I was an Assistant-Superintendent building the new Juvenile Hall Jail Facility in Oxnard.
With my participation and involvement in my locals activities and community actions, I was nominated and elected as an Executive Board Officer of my local union in 2001 and still presently hold that seat. I also was Elected and currently am a Delegate to the Central Labor Council on behalf of my Union.
In April 2002, I was hired by the Laborers Training School as the Apprenticeship Coordinator for the counties of Ventura, Kern, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. I now currently only cover Local 585, servicing the Ventura County area. The past 20 years has been a blessed journey as I have been able to lead and guide hundreds of apprentices to the Skilled Journey Worker status.
The highlights of my job as a Coordinator are hearing the stories from my graduates about how the Laborers Union has changed and improved their lives. I look forward to continuing to do my duties as a Coordinator and helping the future of our Industry thrive as newer tasks and technologies evolve.
" Continued education is the key to bettering yourself as a skilled and certified journey person. Just because you graduate from the apprenticeship program does not mean that you cannot continue to educate yourself. To make yourself more marketable and continue full-time employment, take advantage of the several courses that the Laborers Training School has to offer in addition to the courses that you were required to graduate."
